My congresswoman, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, is being primaried by a local machine party hack. She’s been a great representative and has fought for the residents of my neighborhood, Bushwick, and for a broad, inclusive progressive agenda.
If you’re in these neighborhoods, please get out and vote for her in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, June 26th: SUNSET PARK • RED HOOK • BROOKLYN HEIGHTS • DUMBO • DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN • LOWER EAST SIDE • WILLIAMSBURG • BUSHWICK
For more info, or to volunteer, please see the below email from my friend Carlos Menchaca.
I never do this - but this is a tight race!
Please share this info with your friends, next Tuesday 6/26 is a very important Democratic Primary election date!
Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez has been a friend of the LGBT community and champion of progressive ideals for her entire career in Congress. WE MUST RE-ELECT HER.
Among other great things, Nydia has:Nydia has always put the needs of her constituents first by advocating for affordable housing, securing funding for better schools, and fighting for a comprehensive immigration policy that keeps families together. She has been a strong and independent voice for her district.
- fought for the repeal the Defense of Marriage Act;
- endorsed the enhancement of hate crime legislation;
- advocated for increased funding for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention;
- intervened to prevent immigrant LGBT families from being torn apart;
- defended reproductive rights for women;
- supported the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell; and
- co-sponsored the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
Today, Nydia, one of the few Latina voices in Congress, needs our help. She is in a very competitive Primary race, so all of us in the progressive community must stand with her to make sure she wins.
